Cecilia Frances Bagenski Obituary
June 7, 1931 - November 18, 2024

On November 18, 2024, Cecilia Frances Bagenski, 93, passed away peacefully in Anchorage, Alaska. She joined her beloved father and mother Joseph and Rose Giannini, brother Joseph, sister Mary, and children Hildi Ann and Matthias who preceded her in death. She will be buried at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery in Anchorage, Alaska.

Cecilia was born in San Francisco, California and grew up enjoying adventures with extended family throughout Northern California. Cecilia attended Saint Cecilia’s grammar school and graduated from Presentation High School in San Francisco in 1949. She attended Duchesne College of the Sacred Heart in Omaha, Nebraska majoring in Home Economics and minoring in Psychology, earning her degree in 1962. Cecilia’s adventurous nature took her to Chicago for work and ultimately to Anchorage, Alaska where she met her husband Michael in the basement of Holy Family church in 1963 at a dance sponsored by the Catholic Adult Club of which Michael was the president. Cecilia had only intended to be in Anchorage for a short period of time prior to heading back home to San Francisco but kept pushing back her return date until she made Alaska home. Cecilia and Michael were married November 14, 1966, at Saint Cecilia’s church in San Francisco and celebrated 58 years of marriage on November 14, 2024.

Cecilia and Michael lived and raised their family in South Anchorage including homes in lower and upper Rabbit Creek. Cecilia and Michael have two living children, son Dave and daughter Barat, as well as their beloved granddaughters Madeleine and Danielle.

Cecilia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She dedicated herself to raising her children and later in life spending as much time as she could with her granddaughters. Cecilia was a devout and faithful Roman Catholic, and a life-professed Lay Dominican attached to the Oakland Lay Dominican Chapter as a Prayer Member. She served in many volunteer roles in the church and was a long-time member of The Legion of Mary.

Cecilia enjoyed the outdoors and was the driving force behind numerous camping trips including many memorable trips to Ninilchik. She loved Notre Dame football and the Boston Red Sox. She was very proud of her children, but her granddaughters are truly what made her eyes light up. Cecilia was an amazing baker and won many blue ribbons for her creations at the Alaska State Fair. She enjoyed baking, from scratch of course, with her granddaughters, gardening, knitting and playing the piano. Cecilia particularly enjoyed ice cream, especially mint chocolate chip, and a chocolate milkshake, with whipped cream, while enjoying being a passenger on long drives. She saw and appreciated the beauty of nature that many take for granted.

Cecilia always put others first and offered prayers for friends and strangers equally. She was an example of faith and fortitude. Cecilia will be deeply missed for her kind nature, her mischievous smile and corresponding sense of humor.

Cecilia is survived by her husband Michael; sister Claire Ferreira; son, Dave (Laura); daughter, Barat (Chad); and her granddaughters Madeleine and Danielle. Cecilia was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Hildi Ann; son Matthias; parents, Joseph and Rose Giannini; brother and sister, Joseph Giannini and Mary Clark.

Cecilia’s family is especially grateful for the loving care she received from her caregivers at Opus Memoria and Ancora Hospice.

A Requiem Mass officiated by Father James Moore, OP, will be held at Holy Family on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 2 p.m.
